Need for taking effective steps to tackle cyber crime: Rodrigues
Chandigarh, June 23 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator General (retd.) S F Rodrigues today underlined the need for taking effective steps to tackle cyber crime.
"This is a challenging field and we have to evolve effective technologies to improve our delivery systems by strengthening the research base and infrastructure development programmes in IT Sector", he said while inaugurating a seminar on 'Cyber Security Awareness' organized jointly by Cyber Security Research Center and Chandigarh Administration here.
Gen Rodrigues referred to the recently launched programmes for checking child abuse and elimination of gender disparity and called upon the experts to integrate cyber security measures in these grey areas which are impacting the social system.
He also stressed the need for tightening cyber security laws to maintain high standard of quality, confidentiality and reliability in different areas of operation.
Gen Rodrigues strongly pleaded for evolution of open and transparent environment to provide equal opportunities to all individuals in Information Technology (IT) sector and to contribute for the growth and development of the nation.
He said that it was an established fact that our people were competent and capable of adapting, which they have demonstrated by achieving excellence in a wide range of activities in foreign countries.
Dr Prem Chand, former Additional Director General in the Ministry of Defence and an eminent expert in the field of Cyber Security, while giving a detailed presentation on the occasion, called for a national initiative with the collective effort of Government, academia and industry for ensuring high standards of cyber security and data privacy in business industry and other economic fields.
Mr S K Sandhu, Chandigarh Finance Secretary, in his welcome address said that under the guidance of the Administrator, the Chandigarh Administration had already taken a lead in setting up of Cyber Research Center marking the beginning of a new era in the development of various Cyber Security Programmes.
He said that this center was functioning well and would cater to the needs of the whole region which had been witnessing speedy growth in IT Sector.
