Naxals abduct 10 villagers in Chhattisgarh
Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, June 23 (UNI) Ten villagers, including women and children, were abducted by Maoists from a village in the Dantewada district today.
''The victims were returning from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh after attending a wedding when the naxals targeted them,'' Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma told UNI.
Chhattisgarh Police is coordinating with its Andhra counterpart to secure the villagers' release.
Rebels in Bastar have stepped up activities over the past two years, particularly after the local population -- supported by the state government -- launched the anti-naxal campaign 'Salwa Judum'.
