Major tragedy averted, 15 kg IED in north Kashmir defused
Srinagar, June 23 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today averted a major tragedy when they detected a 15 kg powrful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants to target security forces in north Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, said a police party deteced an 15 kg IED kept in a steel container and planted on Sopore-Bandipora road at Shiva this morning.
The area was immediately sealed and people present in the area shifted to a safer place. Later Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED wsa defused without causing any damage.
A police spokesman said Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police and 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) arrested a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Fayaz Ahmad Hajam along with one ak rifle, one magzine and 55 rounds of ammunition at Pattan.
