Hundreds of shops gutted in Navsari market

Surat, Jun 23 (UNI) Hundreds of shops were destroyed in a major fire that broke out in a market near Dhuliya Talav at Navsari.

Most of the 285 small and medium-type shops that run from the Shakmaji market near Dhuliya talav area were destroyed last night, fire brigade sources said here today.

The fire that started at 2330 hrs was caused by a short-circuit, sources said. The fire was extinguished at around 0300 hrs early today.

Fire brigade teams from Surat, Valsad, Billimora and Navasari were pressed into the act.

No casualties were reported in the fire, sources added.
