Four officials of Ganganagar Jail convicted in murder case

Bikaner, Jun 23 (UNI) A local court has convicted four officials of Ganganagar jail, including jail superintendent, in an 11-year-old case of killing an undertrial.

Additional District and Session Judge(Fast Track) Amarjit Singh Sokha convicted Jail Superintendent Om Prakash Chawadia, Jailer Ram Kumar, Manji Khan and Ashok Arora in a case related to the death of undertrial Lakhwinder Singh during judicial custody in Ganganagar Jail in March 1996.

The deceased was sent in judicial custody on March 8, 1996 where he died later.While the jail officials held that the prisoner died of disease, Lakhwinder's relatives had lodged a complaint accusing the jail officials of murder. The crime branch had later probed the complaint and held five officials guilty.

One of the accused Lakhi had died during the trial in the case.

Now the court would award punishment to the convicts on June 28.
