Dr Kidwai takes over as acting Rajasthan Governor
Jaipur, Jun 23 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai was today sworn in as acting Governor of Rajasthan at the Raj Bhawan here.
Rajasthan High Court acting Chief Justice Rajesh Walia administered oath of the office and secrecy at a brief ceremony. Dr Kidwai took oath in the name of the God, in English. Chief Secretary Anil Vaish read out his warrant of appointment issued by President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, several of her cabinet colleagues, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Sumitra Singh, former Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur, dignitaries from different walks of life and high officials were present.
The post of governor had fallen vacant following resignation by Ms Pratibha Patil on June 21.
Ms Patil had tendered resignation to contest the July 19 Presidential election as the UPA-Left nominee.
Ms Patil had taken over as governor in the state on November 8,2004.
Prior to appointment as Governor in Haryana in July 2004, Dr Kidwai had also held the gubernatorial posts in Bihar and West Bengal too.
He had also held key positions, several important institutions and organisations and contributed well in social service cultural spheres as well.
