Coach awards bronze winner from own pocket

Patiala, June 23 (UNI) In a rare gesture, the national Judo coach, Satish Sharma gave Rs 5000 from his wallet to woman Judoka Tombi Devi for winning a bronze medal in the Asian Judo Championship held in Kuwait early last month at a felicitation function held here last evening.

Sharma is one of the two coaches to accompany the 13-member Indian Judo contingent which will participate in International European Judo Tournamenti in Istanbul this month-end.

While handing over Rs 5000 to Tombi Devi, who works for CRPF, Mr. Laxman Singh Ranawat, Executive Director of the NIS, exhorted the Judokas to work hard in order to bring laurels to the country in international competitions.

He assured the Judokas that the NIS would extend all possible help in this matter.
