TN Bypoll: Moily snubs allegations of bribing voters

Chennai, June 23: Senior Congress leader and in-charge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu Veerappa Moily today denied the allegations levelled agaist the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance, especially the DMK, for indulging in violences and bribing the voters at Madurai West assembly constituency, which is going for bypoll on June 26.

Addressing mediapersons at the airport here, Mr Moily said every thing, including the electioneering, was going on in a peaceful manner. Only the press was creating a scene by levelling allegations of 'large scale malpratices', he added.

To a question, he said the victory of the Congress candidate was certain as the alliance was very strong. Moreover, the people of the constituency were in favour of the DPA, he added.

''Knowing pretty well that the Congress would win the election, someone was levelling allegations against the DPA, out of jealousy,'' he added.

To another question he said the party always obeyed the rules and regulations of the Election Commission and that it respected the Commission.

Mr Moily said he would undertake a joint electioneering with DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and other alliance party leaders at Madurai today.
