Bitta for acceptance of Dera chief's apology
Moga, June 23: All India Anti-Terrorist Front chairman Maninderjit Singh Bitta has appealed to Akal Takhat Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti and other head priests to accept the fresh apology offered by Dera Sacha Sauda head Ram Rahim Gurmeet Singh in the ''best interests of the border state.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Bitta said also appreciated the role played by Prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in defusing the tension between the Dera Sacha Sauda and activists of Sikh organisations.
He also praised Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and state Congress president Shamsher Singh Dullo for their help in defusing the situation.
Mr Bitta appealed to Mr Vedanti to convene a 'Save Dharam Sammelan' inviting leaders of Valmikis, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Christians to understand the circumstances in which people were attracted to Deras like Sacha Sauda.
In this context, Mr Bitta said he would be meeting the Akal Takht Jathedar on his return from Canada.
