Itanagar, Jun 22 (UNI) The water supply system of Naharlagun and Nirjuli townships in Arunachal Pradesh was hit hard following the flash floods triggered by torrential rain since the past couple of days.

The rains washed away the pipeline disrupting water supply since yesterday morning.

The damages caused were massive affecting about four km long three main pipelines of 150 mm diameter from intake point to the supply point. Many pipes were missing, many were seen carried away far off and half buried under sand by forceful current.

The water supply sopurce at Konkur Nallah caters to the needs of Model village, ACE sectors, General Hospital, police colony, directorate and veterinary colony, sources said adding restoration may take 15 days.

However, water tanker would be deployed to feed the hospital, while alternative arrangement is being made for early supply, sources added.

Karmajuli and Nirjuli water supply sources constantly affected by torrential rains were temporarily restored last evening while the Damsite and Papu Nallah might take a week's time for restoration, sources informed adding, the loss was yet to be assessed and could go over a crore.

Meanwhile, PHED Minister Lombo Tayeng, when apprised of the damages, urged the people to bear with the department as fighting against the nature was beyond human capacity. However, all out efforts would be made to restore water supply at the earliest, he assured.
