UPA failed to protect the interest of common man: BJP

Patna, June 22 (UNI) The BJP today alleged that the UPA failed to fulfill the aspirations of ''Aam Admi'' (common man), despite the fact that they had come into power on slogan of protecting the interests of the common man.

The party MP and in-charge of Bihar affairs Kalraj Mishra told mediapersons here that the UPA Government at the Centre failed to check the rising prices of essential commodities despite its claim of arresting the upward trend of inflations. He said that farmers in the southern states and even in UP were committing suicides in frustrations as they failed to get the fair prices of their produce.

The UPA government had not taken any concrete steps to solve the problems faced by the toiling farmers of the country, he added.

Referring to the internal situation in the country, he said that the network of ISI had spread to several states while the government failed to check the activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) which openly declared that they did not have faith in the Constituion. SIMI was the mastermind behind several terrorist activities including the Mumbai Blast but the Centre had not taken effective measures to contain its activities, he added.

He said that the ''minority appeasement policies'' being pursued by the UPA government would increase polarisation in the society on communal lines. The statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the minorities had not been benefitted much from the welfare schemes of the government so far and steps should be taken to ensure such benefits to them in future, was unfortunate, he said, adding that his party was not against the minorities' but any sort of appeasement policy would not be tolerated.

''As in-charge of Bihar affairs,I would strive for better coordination among the party and the government in the state,'' he said, adding that the party workers should propagate the achievements of the government. Cordial relationship would be maintained with the JD(U), a ruling partner of NDA in Bihar, he added.
