K'taka: Traffic disrupted as flood water enters NH
Mangalore, June 22: Heavy rains lashing the coastal Districts of Udupi and Mangalore has badly affected traffic movement on state Highway as flood waters have entered Kalsanka in the heart of temple town.
Four houses were partially damaged in Alevoor in Udupi Taluk and low lying areas in the district were inundated due to heavy rains which is lashing since last three days. According to official sources Udupi recorded 15 cms rain till 0800 hrs today while Karkala and Kundapura in Udupi district recorded 11 cms and 8 cms respectively.
Meanwhile, reports reaching here said that the sea erosion has continued at Nagur, Dali River Bridge connecting Kollur and Shimoga, Maravanthe and Kodi. However, no loss of property or life was reported so for.
In Mangalore, the through traffic on National Highway 17 at Kottara area was disrupted for some time due to fall of a tree on the road. The road was cleared after some time. Low lying areas in the city and paddy fields were flooded with rain water due to artificially created blocks for easy flow of water. The easy flow of rain water was also blocked at few points on the National Highway due to the on-going four-lane work disrupting easy through traffic.
Bantwal in the district recorded highest rainfall of 8 cms in the district till 0800 hrs followed by Mangalore (6 cms) and Belthangady (5 cms).
