Siamese twins discharged from Chhattisgarh hospital
Raipur, June 22 (UNI) Conjoined twins, separated through complex surgery by a team of 12 doctors at a local government hospital on May 29, were discharged today.
Ram and Laxman, who shared a liver, were separated during an operation that lasted for almost seven hours at Dr Ambedkar Memorial Hospital. The twin's parents Ram Prasad and Premwati Kol are overjoyed over the smooth and speedy recovery. ''We will never forget the doctors' efforts and moral support from other staff,'' they said.
The twins were brought to hospital nearly ten months back soon after birth at Bilaspur district's Pendra. They remained admitted thereafter and the hospital provided all facilities including cost of treatment and surgery in view of the family's financial woes.
''Both Ram and Laxman are doing well. They are normal and will surely lead normal lives. The babies are feeding normally. We are satified by their recovery,'' the hospital's Deputy Superintendent M P Pujhari told UNI. During surgery, the liver was separated along with an additional length of 13 cm external body tissue from chest till lower abdomen.
