Rights group opposes narco analysis tests
Mumbai, Jun 22 (UNI) The Forum against Narco Analysis and other forms of Torture, a social activists group, has vehemently opposed the increasing use of narco-analysis and brain mapping tests as part of criminal investigation as it feels they are ''illegal''.
Forum Secretary George Jose said ''Narco analysis has become a cruel armour in the criminal investigation which has no basis.'' The forum also alleged that apart from narco analysis tests, the police resort to other gruesome methods of torture which violates human rights of an individual.
The forum said drug-induced confession, is a coercive interrogation practice which falls within the ambit of the UN definition of torture.
A debate is raging over the narco-analysis test that was carried over Arun Ferrira, who was arrested by Mumbai police for his alleged involvement in naxal activists.
Three petitions have been already filed by the social welfare groups on behalf of Fereira before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court seeking judicial intervention against the narco-analysis tests.
