Patna, Jun 22 (UNI) Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)has intitiated a number of steps to ensure good quality service and supply of healthy food to passengers at reasonable rates in all long distance trains.

Railway sources here today said following the receipts of large number of complaints from bonafied passengers in almost all divisions about the supply of food packets by the catering staff in running trains at very unreasonalbly high rates, the IRCTC had decided to introduce a monitoring cell for conducting sudden visits in long distance trains to find out the quality of food served to passengers and their rates.

If any private catering service was found to be supplying inferior quality food and that too at abnormally higher rates, he would immediately be blacklisted and barred from serving the passengers besides imposing hefty fine on them, the sources confirmed.

Moreover, they said the Corporation had decided to set up five control rooms in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Secundrabad to enable passengers to lodge their complaints on the basis of which stern action would be taken at the earliest.

Steps were also being taken to paste the rate chart of all food items in every compartment of each long distance mail and express train to make the passengers aware of them, the sources said and hoped this would go a long way in transforming the railway catering service to a great extent in near future.
