Power disrupted in city due to strike

Mumbai Jun 22 (UNI) Power supply remained disrupted in parts of the city for the second consecutive day today due to the agitation of contractual workers of Reliance Energy Limited (REL) over regularisation of jobs as well as parity on pay packets.

The 500 contract workers of REL have gone on strike since yesterday. These agitating workers are part of 4,500 contract labourers who have been engaged through a contractor.

On the second day of their strike today, the labourers had a meeting with the management but the issue remained unresolved, Vivek Devasthali spokeperson of Reliance Energy told UNI.

Some workers forced the company to stop repairs at Mumbai's Chembur, Vikhroli and Goregaon areas and attacked employees which affected power supply mainly in Chembur, Vikhroli and Sakinaka, Devasthali added.

Reliance Energy, the city's main electricity supplier to retail customers, has also sought help from the police to continue monsoon-related repairs in various suburbs.
