Petition seeks CBI probe into CPMT-2007 episode

Allahabad, June 22 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today admitted a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into the irregularities related to the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) 2007 conducted by Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur.

On a petition filed by a student Mrityunjay Singh Yadav and 11 others, Justice Shiv Kumar Singh asked the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a detailed report and related documents on June 29.

The petitioners have sought stringent action against the guilty varsity officials.

Their counsel C B Yadav contended that large-scale irregularities had occurred in the conduct of the CPMT and the declaration of results.

He also cast aspertions on the fresh results declared yesterday.

However, UP Additional Advocate General Zafar Nayyar said the petition does not hold any ground, since it had been filed by the students, who had qualified in the exam.

The petition makes Uttar Pradesh government a party through secretary Medical Education Department and Purvanchal University Vice Chancellor and registrar, besides Director General medical education were also made partyt.

Yesterday, CPMT-2007 organising committee chairman and VC K P Singh had resigned from both the posts over the controversy.

However, on basis of a nine-member probe team constitued to probe the matter, the state government had maintained there was no scam and the flaw was only technical in the declaration of CPMT-2007 results.

During prima facie investigation, it was found that the programming was faulty and it was not cross-checked manually. As per the irregularity, it was found that the key (answersheet) of set-1 was wrongly repeated for set-2, set-3 and set-4 also.

The Mayawati government had withheld the earlier results after irregularities were alleged, which had created panic among the students. Furious mobs of students had taken to streets at several places, while one student had committed suicide in Lucknow.
