Kathmandu, June 22 (UNI) Over 600 residents of Shivapur in Gonaha Village Development Committee area of Rupandehi district have left for India due to the fear of Maoists and Madheshi groups conflict, media reports said here today.

The locals chose to flee the village bordering India fearing Maoist reprisal after two Young Communist League leaders were killed by a group of Madheshi People's Rights Forum cadres and some locals last week, Kantipur said quoting the local reporter.

Their fear has been compounded due to the fact that some locals along with MPRF workers were involved in the murder, it said .

The village now wears a deserted look with almost all houses padlocked. Only a few elderly folks are staying back.

''A strange calm prevails in the village with almost no people living here,'' Police Inspector Mahendra Nepal is reported as saying.

''I have requested locals to come and live here without fear. But they don't listen.'' Nepal revealed that some women arrived during the daytime with fodder from an Indian village to feed cattle and returned as soon as possible.

This is the first time that a large number of people have left for India after the end of Maoists insurgency.
