Over 19.6 lakh Handloom Mark labels sold in a year
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The Government has sold about 19.62 lakh Handloom Mark labels and till now, 1303 units have been registered to avail the benefits of the Handloom Mark Scheme.
The Handloom Mark was launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 28 last year, on the same lines as the Wool Mark and Silk Mark so as to give a distinctive identity to handloom products.
Handloom Mark will not only serve as a guarantee to the buyer that the product, consumer is purchasing, is genuine hand woven product but also be able to give better remuneration to the weaver for his hard work and skill. It will help in distinguishing a handloom product from the power loom and mill products and help in increasing sales.
The Textile Committee in the Ministry of Textiles is the implementing agency. Individual weavers, master weavers, cooperatives, handloom corporations, retailers and exporters are the intended beneficiaries.
