Mechanisation in Urea handling commissioned in PPT

Paradip, Jun 22 (UNI) To speed up bagging, stitching and dispatch of finished fertilizer product, Paradip Port Trust(PPT) Chairman K Raghuramaiah here today inaugurated Urea bagging and stitching machine inside the Port Ware House.

The mechanisation of Urea handling had been installed by M/s Orissa Stevedores Limited, who had signed a contract with M/s India Potash Ltd for handling three lakh tonnes of Urea per annum for next three years.

The handling of finished fertilizer product at Paradip Port restarted last year after a gap of ten years. During 2006-07 the Port had handled about 90,000 tonnes of Urea.

This year, however, would handle three lakh tonnes of finished Urea product, the Port sources said.

Addressing on the occasion, the PPT Chairman said the mechanisation would usher in new era in fertilizer handling and would help in augmenting productivity and protecting the health of workers.
