Inspector, ASI booked for misbehaving with SC woman

Moga, June 22 (UNI) Police today registered a case against a police inspector and an ASI on charges of injuring religious sentiments of a scheduled caste woman, disobeying law, entering incorect record and causing wrongful confinement.

The report was registered with Baghapurana police station after DSP Internal Security Cell, Chandigarh conducted an on the spot inquiry and recorded the statements of both the comaplainant Sarbjit Kaur and the police officials and found both the officers guilty of the charges.

According to complainant Sarbjit Kaur of Mallianwala village, who belonged to a scheduled caste family, both SHO Baghapurana, Harjinder Singh and ASI Satwant Singh had misbehaved with her by making indecent remarks that hurt her religions sentiments and harrassed her at the instance of some persons enmical to her family.

When nobody redressed her grievances at district level, she aproached DGP Punjab at Chandigarh who had assigned the matter to DSP Internal Vigilance Bureau. On the basis of the DSP's report, police today booked the duo under section 3/4 Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes act and also under 166, 218 and 342 of IPC.
