Inquiry on into 'boy surgeon's 'feat'

Tiruchirapalli, June 22 (UNI) The investigation into the incident in which a caesarean operation was conducted on a woman by a 15-year-old boy recently at a private hospital in Manapparai was proceeding on the right track, District Collector Ashish Vachchani today said.

Talking to newsmen here this evening, Mr Vachchani, who had ordered a probe into the incident by the Tiruchirapalli Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), said the district administration was expected to get the report in a couple of days.

A three-member-team was conducting exhaustive enquiry with Dr Murugesan who allowed his teenaged son M Dhileepan Raj, a standard X student to perform the risky operation at his hospital, the staff and members of the Manapparai Branch of the Indian Medical Association, he added.

Dhileepan Raj had performed caesarean operation on a woman, his close relative, during May first week with the assistance of his parents Dr Murugesan, a surgeon and Dr M Gandhimathy, a gynaecologist at Mathi Surgical and Maternity Hospital at Manapparai, about 40 kms from here.

On a complaint from Manapparai Branch, the IMA, Tamilnadu Branch Ethics Committee had referred it to Tamil Nadu Medical Council for taking disciplinary action against Dr Murugesan and Dr Gandhimathy.
