Harish, Gurvinder bag AG TT titles

Chandigarh, June 22 (UNI) Harish Kumar of Accountant General (AG) Haryana and Gurvinder Kaur of AG Punjab won the men's and women's singles titles, respectively in the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department Table Tennis Tournament here today.

Harish Kumar fought hard to defeat Jaswant Gangta of Account General HP in a marathon final by 4-3. Gurvinder Kaur of AG Punjab blanked Leena of AG UP by 4-0.

In the men's singles final, Harish winning the first set by 11-9. In the second set, Jaswant of AG HP tried to stage a comeback but Harish maintained his supremacy and won the set by 11-8 for a 2-0 lead.

Jaswant Gangta bounced back by winning the third set and fourth set by 5-11 and 10-12 respectively. In the fifth set Harish won it by 11-7 but Jaswant equalized the lead by winning the sixth set by 9-11. In the decider set, Harish held his nerve and won the set and game by 11-9.

Strong contenders Gurvinder Kaur outshined Leena of AG UP in a one-sided final by 16-14, 11-7, 11-1, 11-5. .

In the veteran section, Somnath of AG HP defeated Pitanjali Kumar of AG Haryana by 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.

AG HP retained the men's team trophy by beating AG UP by 3-1. In the first singles, Somnath of AG HP beat Virendra of AG UP by 11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5 while in the second singles Jaswant Gangta of AG HP outclassed S P Singh by 8-11, 11-3, 11-4, 6-11, 11-8.

In the third singles Anand of AG UP beat Anamik Sood of AG HP by 8-11, 9-11, 9-11. In the fourth singles Somnath of AG HP outperformed S P Singh of AG UP by 17-15, 13-11, 11-6 and won the set and game by 3-1 and lifts the trophy.

Chandigarh Table Tennis Association president Tilak Raj gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up.
