Former AIADMK Minister hurt in bypoll violence

Madurai, June 22 (UNI) Former AIADMK Minister Pandurangan was today injured in stone throwing, reportedly indulged in by DMK supporters, during the campaign for the June 26 bypoll for the Madurai West Assembly constituency.

Today being Friday, dominant rivals in the electoral race, the DMK-led DPA, AIADMK and the DMDK of film star Vijaykanth, all gathered near a dargah in the S S Colony area to canvass for votes.

Political rivalry took an ugly turn and in the stone throwing, Mr Pandurangan was hit in his forehead.

He was later admitted to a corporate hospital in the city, where his condition was reported to be stable.

Police have registered a case in this connection.
