Depression crosses AP coast

Hyderabad, Jun 22 (UNI) The depression which lay over west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into deep depression and crossed Andhra Pradesh coast close to Kakinada this morning.

The deep depression, which lay centered close to Gannavaram adjoining the Krishna district, was likely to move in a west-north-westerly direction and weaken gradually, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Avanigadda in Krishna district and Bapatla in Guntur district recorded an extremely heavy rainfall of 32 cm and 25 cm, respectively.

Repalle (Guntur district) recorded a heavy 20 CM of rainfall followed by Ongole 17 cm, Kandukur and Darsi (Prakasam dist) 16 cm each, Vizianagaram 14 cm, Allagadda (Kurnool dist), Addanki and Cumbum (Prakasam dist) 13 cm each, Machilipatnam (Krishna district) and Atmakur (Kurnool dist) 12 cm each, Tenali (Guntur dist) 11, Koilkuntla (Kurnool dist) and Porumamilla (Kadapa dist) 10 each, Dhone (Kurnool dist), Gudivada (Krishna dist), Arakuvally (Visakapatnam dist) and Podili (Prakasam dist) 9 cm each, Guntur, Macherla (Guntur dist), Owk (Kurnool dist) and Ranasthalam (Srikakulam dist) 8 cm each, Bobbili (Vizayanagaram), Kavali, Eluru (West Godavari dist), Kalwakurthy (Mahabubnagar dist), Mangalagiri and Piduguralla (both Guntur dist), Nagarjunasagar Dam (Nalgonda dist) and Prakasam Barrage (Krishna dist) 7 cm each.

Moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers have been forecasted at most places in Telangana, Rayalaseema and Nellore, Prakasham, Guntur and Krishna in south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at many places in remaining districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy to very heavy rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over Telangana with isolated extremely heavy rainfall during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain was forecast over Rayalaseema during the next 48 hours and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. The rains are expected to intensify in Rayalaseema and Telangana during the period.
