Deep depression to cross north Andhra coast

Visakhapatnam, June 22: The deep depression over West Central Bay of Bengal, which moved northwest and lay centered near latitude 16.5 deg north and longitude 82.6 deg east, is likely to cross the north Andhra coast between Narasapur and Visakhapatnam close to Kakinada, this morning.

A special weather bulletin issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre here said the system was likely to intensify further and move in the west northwesterly direction.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places were likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 36 hours. Extremely heavy rainfall of more than 25 cm was also likely at one or two places over Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, east and west Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts during the same period.

Squally winds with speed reaching 55 to 65 kmph was likely along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. As the sea would be very rough, fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea, the special bulletin said.

Cautionary signal No.3 was hoisted at Kalinagapanam, Bheemunipatnam, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam, Vadarevu and Krishnapatnam ports.
