Punjab: Decision on Chahal's bail plea reserved
Patiala. Jun 22: Chief Judicial Magistrate S S Panser, today reserved till tomorrow the decision on the bail application of B I S Chahal, media advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in a cheating and forgery case.
Defence counsel N P S Waraich argued that that police had falsely framed the charges against his client regarding forgery and cheating.
He said since the Mercedes car, which his client was accused of obtaining by cheating the plaintiff, had already been recovered, there was no need for his custody any longer.
Deputy District Attorney Gurmeet Singh Sandhu, however, said the investigation into the case was still going on and if bail was granted to the accused, he would try to hamper the probe.
He said police was yet to recover the fake registration copies from Chahal's house situated in Tilka Marg in Sagar Apartments.
Patiala Police has registered a case of forgery and cheating against B I S Chahal on the complaint of Jagatjit Singh, owner of Bhagat Motors, alleging that Chahal took his Mercedes Benz in 2005 but never returned the vehicle.
He allegedly got it registered in his own name on the basis of fake papers. Police had registered the case under Sections 384, 406, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC against Chahal.
In another case of forgery and cheating against Chahal, the complainant alleged that the accused got his kitchen renovated and fitted with the latest cooking gadgets but never paid the bills to the tune of Rs 15 lakh.
Chahal was sent to judicial custody in both the cases on June 16 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate and was currently lodged in Patiala Central jail.
