Centre approves road repair works in T'Nadu
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The government has approved a sum of Rs.31.50 crore for various road improvement works under the Central Road Fund Scheme in Tamil Nadu.
Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu approved the amount, which would be used for widening and strengthening 14 road stretches of State Highways and major district roads in the southern state.
Among the stretches where the road improvement work will be arried out are Krishnagiri Varatannapalli-Kandhakuppam Road, including a minor bridge at a cost of Rs.475 lakh and Bargur-Jegadevi Road at a cost of Rs.150 lakh in Krishnagiri.
Cuddalore-Chittor road to Arpakkam via Kovoor will be widened and strengthened at an estimated cost of Rs.200 lakh while Perumanam road is to be widened at a cost of Rs.160 lakh in Thirupattur.
Raising the level of Mettur-Palakkanuthu-Oddanchatram and Dharapuram-Kangeyam-Erode road will be carried out at a cost of Rs 405 lakh in Dindigul district.
The Thandalam-Perambakkam Road in Sriperumbudur and alani-Dharapuram Road (via) Alangiam in Coimbatore are to be widened and improved at a cost of Rs.350 lakh and Rs.275 lakh, respectively.
Further, Alwarthirunagari-Nazereth-Sathankulam-Ittamozhi-Valliyur Road is to be widened and strengthened at a cost of Rs.250 lakh in Thiruchendur.
The government also approved construction of a bridge on the Salem-Thiruppathur-Vaniyambadi Road across Thenpennai river at a cost of Rs.250 lakhs in Dharmapuri.
The other roads which are to be widened and improved are the Ammanpuram-Arumuganeri Road (Rs.200 lakh) in Tuticorin; Karaikudi-C.
Siruvayal Road (Rs.200 lakh) and Aathanigudi-Konappattu Road (Rs.50 lakh) in Sivaganga; Arcot Villupuram Road (Rs.150 lakh) in Thiruvannamalai and Grivalam road in Palani town (Rs.40 lakh).
The Centre had earlier sanctioned an amount or Rs. 77.70 crore in March this year for undertaking road improvement works in Tamil Nadu.
