Vijaya Bank manager, 2 others sentenced for embezzlement

Anand, June 21 (UNI) A fast track court here today sentenced 3 people, including a senior branch manager of Vijaya Bank, to imprisonment ranging from 3 to 7 years on charges of embezzlement in 2004.

Additional District Judge S C Shrivastav found bank manager E Singraj Easwaran guilty and awarded 7 years imprisonment.

Ms Shrivastav also sentenced Rohit alias Bharat Manilal to similar prison term and awarded 3 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to Rajesh alias Raju Ramachandra Punjabi.

The three had jointly prepared bogus drafts to draw money for purhasing English pounds from April 6, 2004, to August 31, 2004. The trio had embezzled Rs 1.49 crore, prosecution said.

Later, Rs 23 lakh cash and one kg of gold were recovered from Easwaran's house.

A case in this regard was filed by the bank's assistant manager.
