Dehradun, June 21 (UNI) Uttarakhand High Court has upheld the election of Dehradun Mayor Manorma Dobriyal Sharma.

A bench of Justices PC Pant and BS Verma struck down the judgement of the District Judge of september 19, 2005, upheld her election.

Ms Sharma, a Congress candidate had won the Mayoral election with 4706 votes in 2003 against BJP candidate Vinod Uniyal.

Challenging the election result, Mr Uniyal had filed a petition in the court of Dehradun District Judge. On 19 September 2005 the District Judge had declared the election invalid. However, no clear order was issued to install Mr Uniyal as Mayor. Both Ms Sharma and Mr Uniyal had filed petitions in Uttarakhand High Court separately.
