UP CPMT results reannounced

Lucknow, June 21 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today announced fresh results of the Combined Pre-Medical Test (CPMT) 2007 with 53735 candidates being qualified for counselling.

The CPMT results, earlier declared on previous Thursday, had only passed 15088 candidates.

There have been changes in the merit list of the candidates. Last time topper Manvi Dua of Muzaffarnagar has been pushed to the 20th spot while Avin Goel of Ghaziabad has secured the first rank.

Akhilendra Pratap Singh of Pratapgarh and Suhang Verma of Faizabad secured the second and third ranks. Among girls, Geetanjali of Kanpur was the topper and ranked fourth in the overall position.

Except for Manvi, no other rankers of the previous results were in the first 20 list.

Announcing the results, Principal Secretary Medical Education Arun Kumar Mishra said the admission counselling will be held between July 8 to 11 and the results will be made available on the website, (www.upcpmt.nic.in).

Mr Mishra said of the 53735 candidates who qualified out of the total 80572, 31009 are boys and 22726 are girls.

Altogether, 20864 OBC candidates qualified in the CPMT followed by 8001 belonging to the Scheduled Caste and 294 of the Scheduled Tribe.

Interestingly, Dilip Kumar Gautam, a CPMT student who committed suicide by jumping before a train in Lucknow on Friday last achieved 9850 rank in the general quota and 735 in the SC category.

Later today, CPMT-2007 organising committee chairman and VC Veer Bahadur Poorwanchal University KP Singh resigned from both the posts in the wake of the controversy in the results, taking moral responsibility.

Yesterday, the state government official maintained there was no scam and only a technical flaw in the declaration of the results on Thursday last on the report of a nine-member probe team constitued to detect any irregularities.

Mr Mishra said the answer sheets would be published in the media so that the students can assess their examination results personally while with a payment of Rs 300, any student can avail their personal answersheet within eight days.
