Tsunami colony residents protest
Chennai, June 21 (UNI) Vehicular traffic on the busy Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) came to a halt for about two hours as a section of the people in Chemmancheri tsunami residential colony, resorted a road roko agitation demanding basic amenities.
The residents, hailing from Foreshore Estate and Srinivasapuram in the city who were affected by tsunami on December 26, 2004 were sheltered at Kannagi Nagar and provided permanent houses at Chemmancheri.
The State Slum Clearance Board (SSCB) had not provided them even the basic necessity of drinking water and electricity in spite of repeated pleas.
On information, revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and dispersed them, police added.
