TRAI extends limit for comments on number of access providers

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today said it has decided to extend the last date for submission of written comments on the consultation paper on 'Review of license terms and conditions and capping of number of access providers' up to July 6.

TRAI had issued a Consultation Paper on June 12 on its website www.trai.gov.in, and it covered a number of issues relating to substantial equity holding, transfer of licenses, mergers and acquisitions.

TRAI also wanted comments from stakeholders on roll-out obligations, permitting service providers to offer access services using combination of technology under the same license, limiting the number of access providers in each service area.

The earlier deadline for comments was June 27 this year.

TRAI in a statement said it had receIved representations from some stakeholders requesting an extension of the date for receiving written comments on this consultation paper.

Keeping in view the importance of the issue and the need for wider participation of stakeholders in the consultation process, we have decided to extend the last date for submission of written comments of all stakeholders, said TRAI in a statement.
