TN Govt to rejig fee panel on engg colleges: Official

Chennai, June 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government would re-constitute the permanent committee for fixing fees for professional courses under the chairmanship of another retired judge soon, the State Higher Education Secretary K Ganesan today said.

After releasing the random numbers allocated for engineering aspirants for the single window counselling at Anna University here, Mr Ganesan told mediapersons till then the colleges would be allowed to collect Rs 32,500 prescribed by the earlier committee.

If the government received any written complaint from students or their parents, then stern action would be taken against the violating college.

To a question, he said there were 5,100 seats in government and government-aided colleges apart from 89,000 seats in self-financing engineering colleges.

''As the case between the state government and self-financing colleges is underway in Madras High Court, we do not know how many seats we will get,'' Mr Ganesan added.

Anna University Vice Chancellor D Viswanathan, who was also present, said the notification for B Arch would be issued on June 24.

''The students can get the application form from June 25 to July four.

''The counselling would take place on July 23. There are 40 seats each available in the School of Architecture and Planning at Anna University, Chennai and Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai,'' he said.
