Three highway robbers arrested

Ahmedabad, June 20 (UNI) As part of preventive measures in view of forthcoming festival of rath yatra, the city crime branch today arrested three highway robbers.

According to Joint Police Commissioner (crime branch) Ashish Bhatiya, three robbers -- Sirajkhan Maksurkhan Pathan (resident of Sankalitnagar, Juhapura), Nasim Salimkhan Pathan (resident of Agrimpark part-2, Juhapura) and Mohemmed Hanif alias Langado Musabhai Maru (resident of Azim Park, Juhapura) -- were apprehended while on their way to Ahmedabad from Vadodara.

''Following a tip off that the trio was coming to Ahmedabad on motorcycles, we laid a trap near Adas village and made the arrest,'' said Mr Bhatiya.

''During their interrogation, the robbers confessed to having kidnapped the driver of a car in April this year and committing robbery of 110 bags of Vimal Gutka. Later they sold the gutka packets at the price of Rs 10,39,000,'' Mr Bhatiya said.

''Apart from this crime, these accused were also involved in the robbery of Rs 2,46,000 from a gas agent and 20 crimes of chain snatching and theft,'' he added.
