Tanwar flays falling law

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) BJP leader Karan Singh Tanwar today deplored the deteriorating law and order situation in the Delhi Cantonment area in recent months while charging Delhi Police with inaction in the matter.

Addressing a press conference here, the senior leader of the Delhi Pradesh BJP and the general secretary of the BJP's legislative party in the state assembly drew the attention of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil towards a series of heinous crimes in the area like a girl committing suicide due to harrassment, murder, abduction, theft and cases of eve teasing.

''The law and order situation in the Delhi Cantonment area has totally collapsed which is evident from a series of heinous crimes against women in recent months,''Mr Tanwar said.

In this context, he said that on April 20, Kumari Renu Sharma, a resident of Sadar Bazar in Delhi Cantt was instigated to commit suicide due to harrassment of one Col Upmanyu.

''No action has been taken against the said person, who works as a Deputy Registrar in I P University. On the contrary, a well planned conspiracy is being hatched to shield the culprits by keeping aside all the facts''Mr Tanwar alleged.

Similarly, an FIR in case of a 14-year-old Vikki, who went missing on May 15 from Sadar Bazar, was registered only after a lapse of five days when the BJP leader threatened to go on hunger strike and mediapersons came to know of the case. In another case of eve teasing of a maid servant Sonia Sharma, officials of Delhi Cantt police station refused to accept her complaint when she went there with her employers.

''Despite a number of such hair raising incidents of crimes against women, the inaction of the DCP (South West) Ravinder Yadav is a matter of serious concern,''Mr Tanwar said and demanded his immediate transfer in public interest.

Further, he also demanded that the culprits responsible for various incidents of crime have cases registered against them.

He threatened that in case no action was taken in the matter within 15 days, he would stage a massive dharna in front of the reisdence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
