Bangalore, June 21: The Special CBI court, trying the multi-crore fake stamp paper case, today sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi and two former doctors of Government Victoria Hospital for issuing false medical certificate to facilitate bail for Telgi on medical grounds.

Delivering the verdict at the jam-packed court hall inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail here, Special Court Judge Virupakshappa V Angadi also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on Telgi, and in default, two more years of imprisonment.

He also slapped a fine of Rs 14 lakh each on the doctors -- Dr Gyanendrappa and Dr Chandrakeshava, after finding them guilty under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. They would have to undergo another two years of imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.

The Judge, who had found all the three guilty in the case on Tuesday, had reserved pronouncement of sentence for today.

While both the doctors were present in the court, Telgi, now lodged in Pune jail, appeared via video conferencing facility.
