Stamp paper scam: Telgi and two doctors sentenced

Bangalore, Jun 21(UNI) The Special CBI court, trying the multi-crore fake stamp paper case, today sentenced to Seven years of rigorous imprisonment to each of the two former doctors of Government Victoria Hospital for issuing false medical certificate to facilitate kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi to get bail on medical grounds.

Telgi was also sentenced to Seven years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 25 lakhs fine. If he fails to pay the fine he has to undergo two years imprisonment.

Delivering the verdict the special court judge Virupakshappa V Angadi at the jam-packed court hall inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail also slapped a fine of Rs 14 lakh each of the convicted doctors after finding them guilty under the provision of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Convicted Dr Gyanendrappa and Dr Chandrakeshava, would also undergo another 2 years of imprisonment if they failed to pay fine.

The Special Court Judge who found all the three of the accused guilty into the case on Tuesday, had reserved the pronouncement of sentence for today.

While both the accused doctors were present in the court, Telgi, who is presently lodged in Pune jail, appeared in the video teleconference facility.

Mr M T Nanaiah and Rajanna appeared for the accused, while, Mr Nanjundaiah argued for the CBI.
