Sea erosion, heavy rain disrupts normal life
Alappuzha, June 21 (UNI) Sea erosion and torrential rain have disrupted normal life along the coastline of the district.
The Southern part of the district was the worst-affected with giant waves lashing the coast of Arattupuzha and Trikkunnappuzha panchayats.
The Arattupuzha panchayat, where the December 26, 2004 tsunami claimed 29 lives, remained isolated with roads destroyed in sea erosion. Electricity and water supply were also disrupted in the panchayat.
Revenue officials said 150 houses were destroyed and 550 damaged.
They had opened nine relief camps where 200 families were accommodated.
Sea erosion had also affected Mararikulam and Northern panchayats of the district where nearly 20 houses were damaged.
