Sangma flays Lapang govt for booking KSU activists under MPDA
Shillong, June 21 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma has criticised the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for booking the arrested Khasi Student's Union activists under Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act (MPDA).
''MPDA should be the last resort of the government as there are other laws, including IPC and CrPC, to deal with the arrested KSU leaders,'' Mr Sangma said here today.
''It is sad to see that the Lapang government is using the last weapon, which they used in the Williamnagar and Tura incidents too,'' the NCP leader said.
Mr Sangma said only the ''insecure people at the helm of affairs'' resort to threat and arrest.
