Rupee ends firm at 40.71/72 per dollar

Mumbai, June 21: The Rupee climbed up marginally today to end trade at 40.71/72 per dollar as compared to previous close of 40.75.

The Market stood volatile on enormous capital inflows to Indian equities, said dealers.

''Presence of ICICI Follow on offer caused high inflows. However, Investors were seen worried about speculations about a further hike in Cash Reserve Ratios (CRR)'', said Naveen Raghuvanshi, Senior Forex Dealer with Development Credit Bank.

The domestic unit opened weaker today at 40.78 down by three paise from previous close of 40.75 per dollar on wednesday. Later it went down to 40.81 before bouncing back to a stronger closing mark of 40.71.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fixed the reference rate at Rs 40.75 per US dollar, up by seven paise from its yesterday's rate of Rs 40.82 per USD.

Six month premia ended at 2.89 and annualised premia at 2.81.

Against Euro, Rupee closed at 54.35/36 per unit each, against Pound it closed at 80.83/85 per unit each while Yen was quoted at 32.82/84 per hundred dollar each.
