Rectification of BPL list to be completed by July 31

Patna, Jun 21 (UNI) The Bihar government today reiterated that the ongoing rectification process of Below Poverty Line (BPL) list of the state would be completed by July 31.

State Rural Development Minister Baidyanath Prasad Mahto told newspersons here that of the total number of 1 crore 44 lakh complaints were received in connection with irregularities in BPL list from various panchayats so far, corrections had been made in 840 panchayats and while rectification was under way in 8063 panchayats.

All complaints except those made in Gaya district would be rectified by July 31, he added.

Mr Mahto informed that the district magistrates and deputy development collectors had been directed to initiate stern action against the affluent people who had failed to withdraw their name from the BPL list on their own.

Under National Employment Gurante Scheme in Bihar, he said Rs 718 crore was spent in the 2006-07 financial year while 16.88 lakh families were given employment, creating 5.97 crore man days during the period, he stated.
