Police lathicharge agitating home guards

Patna, Jun 21 (UNI) At least 10 demonstrating home guard jawans, who were demanding their appointment to the Bihar police department, were today injured when the police lathicharged them here.

Official sources here said that the police resorted to lathicharge and shelled water canons to disperse the agitating home guard jawans. Demanding thier appointment to the state police, about 1,200 jawans had taken out a procession and were demonstrating in a busy market area here.

According to official sources, the police had to use force since they were trying to proceed towards the secretariat and had entered the security zone after breaking the iron gates near the R-block.

The sources further informed that the home guard personnel were declared qualified in the physical examination for their appointment into the department.
