New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Vijender Gupta today clarified property tax rates in Delhi would not be hiked and that the increase in MCD revenues would be affected through an efficient utilisation of its current financial resources.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Gupta said the report of the Municipal Valuation committee should have been released in March to enable the MCD to invite objection from the common man before fixing new rates of property tax for the financial year beginning April, 2007.

However, due to a delay in the release of the report, it is not possible to implement it immediately as it is necessary to study the objections of the public to the new rates.

He said the report of the committee puts 2180 colonies in Delhi in different categories, from A to F. He said changes had been made in the number of colonies under each of the categories but no reason had been given for the same which was necessary from a legal point of view.

Similarly, the committee has recommended an increase in the unit base value in property tax rates for various categories without assigning any reason for the same.

Mr Gupta said one of the members of the committee has expressed his disagreement with its recommendations.
