Molestor surrenders before police

Aizawl, June 21 (UNI) After absconding for several days, an alleged child molester has finally surrendered yesterday, police said here today.

The accused Hualhnuna, who is also a teacher, was however, armed with an anticipatory bail, police sources said.

Acting on complaints from the Child Welfare Committee(CWC), the Aizawl police's women cell was looking for Hualhnuna, a teacher at Sihphir Vengthar primary school on charges of molesting his girl students.

According to an FIR lodged at the Bawngkawn police station by the CWC, the accused had allegedly molested eight female students of his school.

The CWC, after meeting the victims on June 19, came to the conclusion that the allegations were true.

According to the sources, Hualhnuna's acts came into light on his eighth attempt, which was foiled by others, on June 8.

After this his previous victims also broke their silence.

Meanwhile parents of the students rallied against the teacher, strongly demanding his transfer until which they refused to send their children back to school.

The accused is a resource teacher who had passed a training on how to look after children who need special care. Apart from this, he was a secretary of the village education committee.

Sources said that the teacher began molesting the girls since four years back.
