Kerala HC dismisses former minister's petition

Kochi, June 21 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today dismissed a batch of writ petitions filed by former Minister M V Raghavan, Chairman of the Kerala State Co-operative Hospital Complex and Advanced Medical Services Society, Pariyaram and others seeking a direction to compel the Registrar of Co-operatives to appoint a returning officer to conduct elections to the Director Board of the Society.

The term of the Director Board is to expire on July 11 and it had passed a resolution on April 9 last requesting the Registrar to appoint a returning officer to conduct the election. However, the Registrar did not appoint a returning officer stating that the hospital society was a federal one.

The petitioners contended that unless the court issued a direction to appoint a returning officer the election could not be conducted.

Dismissing the petition, Justice K M Joseph said there was no illegality in the order issued by the Registrar.
