Jaswant faces Harish in singles final

Chandigarh, June 21 (UNI) Jaswant Gangta of AG HP ousted local lad Vikas Sharma of AG Punjab by 4-2 in a thrilling semifinal match of the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department Table Tennis Tournament being held here today.

Jaswant's opponent in the final will be Harish Kumar of AG Haryana who outclassed Virendra Kumar of AG UP by 4-1 in the second semi-final singles match.

Vikas Sharma put up a brave fight against Jaswant Gangta but latter proved too good and won by 11-7, 6-11, 7-11, 11-7, 15-13, 11-9. Harish Kumar beat Virendra of AG UP by 11-8, 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals Virendra Kumar of AG UP outclassed Anand of AG UP by 11-9, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 4-11, 12-10.

In the second quarterfinal, Harish Kumar beat S P Singh of AG UP by 14-12, 11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 11-5, 13-11. In the third quarterfinal, Vikas Sharma outperformed Pitanjali Kumar of AG Haryana by 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-9 while in the last quarterfinal Jaswant Gangta of AG HP beat Anamik Sood of AG HP by 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9.

In the women's section, Gurvinder Kaur of AG Punjab thrashed Shikha of AG Haryana by 11-4, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9 and stormed into the final.

In the second semifinal, Leena of AG UP faced no problem to oust Saroj of AG Haryana by 11-6, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 and ensured her berth in the final.

In the first semifinal of the veteran section, Somnath of AG HP defeated Rakesh Joshi of AG UP by 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 while in the second semifinal Pitnjali Kumar of AG Haryana got better of Surinder Mohan Sharma of AG Punjab by 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.
