HC quashes TN GO on CET for law course

Chennai, June 21 (UNI) Madras High Court today quashed an order of the Tamil Nadu Government, abolishing Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to law degree course.

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice P Jyothimani, quashed the GO, dated April 19, 2007, while allowing the petitions filed by Nirmal Kumar and three others, challenging the GO.

The Bench directed the State Government and the Law University to conduct CET for the law course, as was done earlier, within a period of six weeks and make admissions to all law courses on the basis of CET results.

The notification would be issued within two weeks, and the examination and admission process would be completed within four weeks thereafter, the Bench added.
