Tripura: Eight dead in road accident near Nakicherra

Written by: Staff

Agartala, June 21: At least eight people died and 13 others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a commander jeep and maruti van early this morning in Nakicherra area, about 40 km from here.

While seven people died on the spot, another person died in Agartala Government Medical College, where the injured had been taken for treatment.

Police said that the maruti van was transporting a patient to Agartala while the commander jeep was coming from the opposite direction, carrying a marriage party of a tribal community. Police have stated rash driving on the part of the commander jeep driver to be the reason behind the accident.

All the injured, including some children, were shifted to Agartala Government Medical College. Four of them were still stated to be in critical condition, police said.

''While the driver of the maruti van was seriously injured the patient and his companions have not been injured and all the deceased were passengers of the jeep,'' police said, while adding that the dead included three women.
