EC directs political functionaries to move out

Chennai, June 21 (UNI) The Election Commision (EC) has directed all political functionaries and party workers to move out of the constituency after the electioneering for the June 26 bypoll to Madurai West Assembly comes to an end at 1700 hrs on June 24.

An official release here said presence of political functionaries and party workers, who were not part of the constituency, would undermine the atmosphere for a free and fair poll.

The EC had also directed that the Constituency should be sealed off to ensure that no outside elements would enter inside and create an ambience contrary to what required for a free and fair poll.

This also included political functionaries, who have been provided security by the state.

''All district election officers and Superintendents of Police should ensure that all those political functionaries who have been provided security by the state should not allowed to remain in the constituency in which they are not electors after the campaigning is over,'' it added.
